for your Guild, School or Group
Shepherds Talk offers a variety of custom workshops and presentations. As shepherds we bring a depth of knowledge about raising fiber animals and a love and appreciation for the fiber they produce. Between us we have over 40 years of spinning (and shepherding) experience, and love to share what we have learned along the way. Take a look at some of our video offerings, we can certainly delve deeper into any of those topics, or come up with a custom class for your group's interests. At Shepherds Talk, we focus on lighthearted presentations, chocked full of information, and the intent to have everyone, no matter the level, enjoy the workshop, add to their tool box of techniques, and take away lots of new and fresh ideas. |

'Spinning Naturally Textured Yarn by Breed' is one popular workshop. We work with (hand chosen) washed fiber that has not been carded or combed, and using techniques to spin natural texture into yarn with an emphasis on the breed itself and the unique character of each fiber. We are prepared to do a combination of several of the breeds we have from our Breed videos, which include: Wensleydale, Teeswater, CVM, Merino, Angora Rabbit, Pygora Goat, Romney and Icelandic (and possibly Jacob). With advanced notice we can present almost any breed or combination of breeds depending on fiber availability.
Our 'Shepherds Shawl' Workshop includes bringing several different fibers to spin, teaching various ways to spin for various textures, and then provide a simple pattern to knit them all up together into a 'Shepherds Shawl'. Guaranteed to widen everyone's experience with natural fibers, and stretch their spinning skills, whether beginner or highly experienced spinners, we will find challenges and enjoyment for all.

We are happy to customize our program to address specific interests that your group may have. We teach adding some excitement to your spinning by watching the natural texture from each fiber create a unique form, from wild to more traditional, and everything in between. The familiar favorites of core spinning, lock spinning, baubles, coils, Navajo ply, thick and thin, bulky singles are frequently asked for. We add a few more newer techniques that fit with our love of fiber and texture and experimentation. We always bring samples of things we have made, to spark the imagination and stretch peoples ides and thoughts on spinning outside the box. |
